When I decided to attend the EXTRAVAGANZA! I figured I would be attending ‘just’ another indy wrestling show. Not that this is a bad thing, I was actually quite excited since I had not been to a wrestling show in a while. I was 100% wrong, what I attending was something I had never been to before. Yes it was another indy wrestling show, but it felt completely different then show I had ever attended. I used to attend indy shows on a regular basis, so I have been to quite a few over the years.
This show felt 100% authentic, like I had traveled back in time to the 1920’s. The moment I walked into the ‘arena’ I was greeted with different personalities running around handing out flyers, and trying to get the crowd into the show. Even the set up felt real, with the old wooden chairs on two sides of the ring, and bleachers on the other. Then the show begun, with the ring announcer hobbling into the ring, and the microphone being lowered down to him. He even changed the sound of his voice, so it sounded like an old school microphone was being used. The ragtime band started playing and after looking towards the entrance, I saw an antique car drive into the arena, bringing in the first contestant. This completely blew my mind! Throughout the entire show the ragtime band interacted with the wrestlers and what was going on in the ring. The different characters that I saw before the show begun, where still running around in between matches, or getting the crowed riled up during the matches. Every wrestler had an old school gimmick, and seemed to even wrestle in more of an old school style.
Overall, this show was truly one to attend. The entire night was top notch in every way. I cannot think of one thing that I disliked about the show. I hope this EXTRAVAGANZA! Comes back! If they do, make sure you attend, you won’t be disappointed!
